CBD (cannabidiol), is a non-psychoactive compound derived from the hemp plant, has gained significant attention for its potential health benefits for our pets! Here are some ways in which CBD can benefit dogs and cats:
Anxiety and Stress Reduction: Separation anxiety, general anxiety, trauma, thunderstorms, groomer/vet visits, car rides, new surroundings, strangers - lots of reasons make our pets anxious! Signs of anxiety can be trembling, barking/whining, licking, chewing, pacing, destructive behaviour, hiding, changes in appetite or bathroom habits, aggression or restlessness. CBD has anxiolytic properties, meaning it can help calm anxious pets by affecting serotonin receptors in the brain.
Pain Relief: CBD is known for its analgesic properties. It can help alleviate various types of pain in dogs, whether it's due to arthritis, injuries, surgery, or chronic conditions.
Anti-Inflammatory Effects: Inflammation and arthritis are common issues in dogs and can show up at any age. CBD's anti-inflammatory properties can help reduce swelling, improve mobility, and enhance their overall comfort.
Allergies/Skin Conditions: Due to environmental or food allergies, pets can suffer from Hot Spots, dermatitis, Eczema, dry flaky skin, irritations, wounds, redness, itchy skin, hair loss, chewing and licking or have gastrointestinal issues. CBD’s anti-inflammatory properties can sooth irritated skin, help reduce the urge to scratch and calm the immune system’s response to allergens. Contributes to a healthier, shinier, softer coat!
Seizure Management: CBD has been used to manage and reduce the frequency and severity of seizures in dogs suffering from epilepsy. It's considered a promising alternative for dogs that don't respond well to traditional anti-seizure medications.
Appetite Stimulation: In cases where a dog's appetite is reduced due to illness or medication, CBD helps stimulate appetite. This can be particularly helpful for dogs recovering from surgery or undergoing chemotherapy.
Nausea and Vomiting Control: CBD can help reduce nausea and vomiting in dogs, whether it's caused by motion sickness or a side effect from other medications.
Improved Sleep: Just like in humans, CBD can help regulate sleep patterns in dogs. This can be especially beneficial for older dogs or those with sleep disturbances.
Cognitive Decline: Can reduces late-day anxiety and agitation (sundowning), help prevent the evening spikes in restlessness or irritability, and can make nighttime transitions smoother.
Mood: Can enhance mood and aid in depression.
Overall Well-Being: CBD supports the endocannabinoid system, which plays a crucial role in maintaining balance and homeostasis in the body. This means that in addition to specific benefits, CBD can contribute to an overall sense of well-being for your pet!
Please reach us at info@serenitybowwow.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Thanks to the Endocannabinoid System (which us humans and our canine friends have), CBD (Cannabinoids) influences specific receptors in the brain, body and immune system, which triggers them to regulate some of the most critical bodily functions. It works like a key in a lock, the CBD fits perfectly and activates those receptors! And the incredible part is that dogs have SO many more receptors than we do, making CBD even more effective on them!
No. CBD is non-psychoactive. While our cat treats do contain trace amounts of THC (less than 0.3%), they are formulated to be used in appropriate amounts and are not intended to produce psychoactive effects.
CBD is generally very safe and well tolerated by dogs and cats! CBD is non-addictive and carries no risk of overdose and causes no withdrawal symptoms. CBD may cause some minor side effects - see our dosing page for more information. It is not recommended to take CBD with some medications and some pre-existing conditions. Talk to your vet before introducing any new wellness products to their diet.
Pure CBD Isolate
This oil contains only one cannabinoid from the hemp plant - CBD. It is mixed with a high quality MCT oil as a carrier (extracted from Coconut oil). This can be a good option if this is their first time using CBD or if they have a lot of sensitivities. If you're not seeing results from the Isolate, they may benefit from Broad Spectrum CBD.
Broad Spectrum CBD
This oil contains CBD plus all the other compounds within the plant like CBDV, THCV, CBN & CBG, except for THC, which is completely removed after the initial extraction. These cannabinoids work together to create an "entourage effect" and can be more effective than CBD Isolate when it comes to pain.
Full Spectrum CBD
Only our Cat Treats contain Full-Spectrum CBD, meaning it contains all phytochemicals naturally found in the hemp plant, including CBD, trace cannabinoids like CBDV, THCV, CBN, & CBG, terpenes, and essential oils. It also comes with a negligible THC content (less than 0.3%).
If your dog has allergies or skin conditions and you don't know the cause, we suggest using the Oils. Some people like start with the oil so they can easily adjust the dosage according to how their pet responds. Once they find the perfect dose, they move to the treats, for convenience. With the treats, it's easy to administer, you know you're giving the right dose, you're more likely to remember to give it to them, plus they get a wholesome, oven baked treat out of it! If you're not sure if your dog will like the treats, you can always crumble it into their food. Or just email us to request a sample!
As for the oils, it is a more cost effective option. Drop it directly into their mouth, on their food or even rub it into the inside flap of their ears! They also may get slightly quicker relief by placing it under their tongue, if time is an issue!
In the beginning: Yes - daily use helps CBD build up in your pet’s system, and it may take 2–4 weeks before you see the benefits.
For ongoing issues (like arthritis): Daily dosing (often split into morning and evening) works best for steady support.
For occasional needs (like groomer visits or thunderstorms): After the initial build-up phase, you can give CBD as needed. If there’s been a long gap without use, a few days of consistent dosing may be needed again to get the best effect.
Every dog and cat will be different. You may get lucky and see a noticeable difference the first time you give to them, and for some it takes time to build up in their system, usually not taking more than a full month. If you don't see an improvement, you can increase to a stronger dose.
You may need a little patience and adjusting of dosage. Feel free to reach out to us and we can help give some tips! We can help assess the situation when we know more information about your specific case. info@SerenityBowWow.com
